Love Muscle
Date: 1989
Medium: oil on canvas, Formica frames
Love Muscle referred to the erotic fiction genre with a feminist twist. In a series of works, each word of the sentence “When she whispered penetrate his rocket blasted into her yearning flower.” was used as the title of one of the paintings. The paintings also parodied corporate culture through its use of over-stated Formica frames and signage. Each of the “erotic” paintings was interspersed with a work titled with a command. The commands went from negative to positive: Die Now, Deny Now, Blunder Now, Act Now, Love Now, and so on.
Love Muscle is in the collection of The National Gallery of Canada.
